Kidnomics ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website kidnomics.com, the marketplace shop.kidnomics.com, and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the Platform.

By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Platform.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Child age range (optional, used for product relevance)
  • Childcare provider association (if you sign up through a daycare or childcare provider partnership)

Childcare Receipt Information:

  • Invoice date
  • Receipt images or PDF documents
  • Additional notes you provide with submissions

Transaction Information:

  • Points earned and redeemed
  • Products purchased through the Marketplace
  • Discount codes generated and applied
  • Order history

Referral Information:

  • Referral codes generated and shared
  • Referral relationships (who referred whom)
  • Referral bonus awards

Communications:

  • Questions submitted through the "Quick Question" feature
  • Emails sent to or received from Kidnomics
  • Feedback and survey responses

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device and Usage Information:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Device identifiers
  • Pages visited and features used
  • Time spent on the Platform
  • Referring URLs

Cookies and Tracking Technologies:

  • Session cookies (required for Platform functionality)
  • Authentication tokens (required for login persistence)

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We do not sell advertising on the Platform. If analytics services are enabled, they operate without cookies using privacy-preserving methods (see Section 10).

2.3 Information from Third Parties

Shopify:

When you make a purchase on shop.kidnomics.com, Shopify processes the transaction and shares order information with us, including your name, email, shipping address, and order details.

Authentication Providers:

If you sign in using a third-party authentication provider (such as Google), we receive your name and email address from that provider.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

Platform Operations:

  • Creating and managing your account
  • Processing and verifying childcare receipt submissions
  • Calculating and awarding points
  • Processing points redemptions and generating discount codes
  • Fulfilling Marketplace orders (in coordination with Vendors)
  • Managing the referral program
  • Administering childcare provider partnerships

Communications:

  • Responding to your questions and support requests
  • Sending transactional emails (receipt confirmations, point awards, order updates)
  • Sending promotional communications (only with your consent; you may opt out at any time)

Platform Improvement:

  • Analyzing usage patterns to improve Platform features
  • Identifying and fixing technical issues
  • Developing new features and services

Security and Compliance:

  • Detecting and preventing fraud, including fraudulent receipt submissions
  • Enforcing our Terms of Service
  • Complying with legal obligations

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

4.1 Vendor Partners

When you purchase a product through the Marketplace, your name, shipping address, and order details are shared with the Vendor fulfilling your order. Vendors receive only the information necessary to fulfill and ship your order. Vendors do not receive your childcare receipt data, points balance, or account information.

4.2 Service Providers

We use third-party service providers to operate the Platform. These providers process your data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect your information:

  • Supabase — Database hosting and authentication
  • Shopify — Marketplace platform and payment processing
  • Stripe (via Shopify Payments) — Payment processing (Kidnomics does not store card numbers)
  • Vercel — Hosting for slider application
  • Bolt (supersonic.ai) — Website hosting for kidnomics.com
  • Google Workspace — Email communications
  • Amazon SES — Transactional email delivery
  • Plausible Analytics — Privacy-focused website usage analytics (does not collect personal data or use cookies)

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of Kidnomics, our users, or the public
  • Detect, prevent, or address fraud or security issues

4.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you of any such transfer and any choices you may have regarding your information.

4.5 Childcare Provider Partners

If you sign up through a daycare or childcare provider partnership, we may share aggregated, anonymized data with that provider, such as the total number of families enrolled through their program. We do not share your personal information, account details, points balance, receipt data, or purchase history with childcare provider partners without your explicit consent.

Your childcare provider will not have access to any individually identifiable information about you through Kidnomics.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest
  • Row-level security policies on database tables
  • Role-based access controls
  • Secure authentication with encrypted password storage
  • Regular security audits

Despite these measures, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

5.1 Receipt Image Security

Childcare receipt images and PDFs are stored securely and are accessible only to you and authorized Kidnomics personnel for the purpose of receipt verification. Receipt images are not shared with Vendors, advertisers, childcare provider partners, or any third parties.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Platform's services. Specifically:

  • Account information — Retained until you request account deletion
  • Receipt images — Retained for the duration of your account activity plus 3 years for audit and compliance purposes
  • Transaction history — Retained for the duration of your account activity plus 7 years for financial record-keeping
  • Communications — Retained for 3 years from the date of communication

Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Access and Portability

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, contact us at hello@kidnomics.com. We will respond within 45 days.

7.2 Correction

You may update your account information at any time through the Platform. For corrections to other data, contact us at hello@kidnomics.com.

7.3 Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and personal information by contacting us at hello@kidnomics.com. Upon receiving a verified deletion request:

  • We will delete your account and personal information within 30 days
  • Some information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (fraud prevention, financial records)
  • Points balances are forfeited upon account deletion and cannot be restored

7.4 Opt-Out of Communications

You may opt out of promotional communications at any time by:

You cannot opt out of transactional communications (receipt confirmations, security alerts, Terms updates) while your account is active.

7.5 Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

If you visit our website with the Global Privacy Control opt-out preference signal enabled, we will automatically treat this as a request to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for the device and browser you use to visit the website. If we are able to associate the signal with your Kidnomics account, we will apply the opt-out request to your account as well. Note: As stated elsewhere in this Privacy Policy, Kidnomics does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal as a confirmation of these practices.

The Platform does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals other than the Global Privacy Control. We do not track users across third-party websites.

7.6 Complaints and Appeals

If you have complaints about how we process your personal information, or if you disagree with our response to a rights request, please contact us at hello@kidnomics.com. We will respond within 45 days. You also have the right to appeal our decision by contacting us at the same email address, or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

8.1 Right to Know

You have the right to request that we disclose:

  • The categories of personal information we have collected about you
  • The categories of sources from which the personal information was collected
  • The business or commercial purpose for collecting the personal information
  • The categories of third parties with whom we share the personal information
  • The specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you

8.2 Right to Delete

You have the right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions provided by law.

8.3 Right to Correct

You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.

8.4 Right to Non-Discrimination

We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights.

8.5 Categories of Information Collected

In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information:

  • Financial Information — Childcare payment amounts, transaction history
  • Commercial Information — Products purchased, points earned/redeemed
  • Internet Activity — Browsing history on Platform, feature usage
  • Geolocation — ZIP code, approximate location from IP
  • Professional Information — Childcare provider names

8.6 Sale and Sharing of Personal Information

Kidnomics does not sell personal information. Kidnomics does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes.

8.7 How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise your California privacy rights, contact us at hello@kidnomics.com with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line. We will verify your identity before processing your request. We will respond within 45 days of receiving a verifiable request.

9. Children's Privacy

The Platform is intended for use by adults (parents and caregivers) who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

While the Platform processes information about childcare expenses, we do not collect children's names, ages, photographs, or other directly identifying information about children as part of the receipt submission process. The optional "child age range" field on user profiles collects only a general age range, not specific dates of birth.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@kidnomics.com.

10. Cookies and Tracking

10.1 Cookies We Use

  • Session cookies — Maintain your login state (required)
  • Authentication tokens — Secure account access (required)

10.2 Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the Platform is used. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track users across websites. All analytics data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users. No consent mechanism is required for this service.

10.3 Your Cookie Choices

Essential cookies (session and authentication) are required for the Platform to function. We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking technologies.

11. Third-Party Links

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites, including Vendor websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites you visit.

12. International Users

The Platform is operated from the United States and is intended for users located in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using the Platform, you consent to this transfer.

If we transfer your personal information out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we will rely on recognized transfer mechanisms like the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or any equivalent contracts issued by the relevant competent authority of the UK, as relevant, unless the data transfer is to a country that has been determined to provide an adequate level of protection.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:

  • Posting the updated Privacy Policy on the Platform with a new "Last Updated" date
  • Sending an email notification to your registered email address

Your continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
